MUCA’s Five Minute Foreman Workshop a Success!

MUCA Members packed the Ewald Conference Center to learn a rare lesson – leadership and management skills for field crew, supervisors, superintendents, project managers and even owners.

Mark Breslin provided a high-energy, enthusiastic program that included straight talk and plenty of group discussions. He correctly pointed out that most construction supervisors and crew leaders are responsible for the oversight of the project including managing personnel, materials, equipment, changes, inspections, safety, along with a dozen other aspects of the job. In addition, all this work amounts to responsibility for hundreds of millions of dollars over a 30 year career… yet the ONE thing they never (or rarely) receive is training on how to elevate themselves as leaders.

As professionals in the construction industry, these leaders can positively impact those around them through motivation, communication, driving accountability, and coaching and mentoring. The cost to implement these strategies is nothing; the reward is an engaged, productive and dedicated crew, which will add to the bottom line and also continue to develop future industry leaders for your company.

Our congratulations to the following MUCA companies for investing in your leaders: Beemer Companies, Brenteson Companies, LaTour Construction, Belair Sitework Services, Ellingson Companies, HD Supply Waterworks, Hjerpe Contracting, Magney Construction, Midwest CATV, Rice Lake Construction Group, St. Paul Utilities, and Olson Sewer Service.

MUCA is pleased to offer valuable programs to help our members develop their most valuable asset, your people!

GSOC Update –ITIC Training

Please take a moment to review the following GSOC system updates that were recently implemented as well as several suggestions and tips to help you out this upcoming busy season. We look forward to your feedback and continued support!

FOR EXCAVATORS

New Features

MULTI-POLYGON – You now have the ability to group multiple circles on a single ticket when the work site is contained on a single address; within the property boundaries (parcel data). What this means is that if you are mapping out your work site and you have more than 1 radius location with the center being on the same address parcel, the ITIC system will group these onto the same ticket.

Top Reasons We Call You Back on Tickets Submitted Online

Did You Know..?

POLYGON DID NOT COVER WORK SITE

That the select parcel tool will allow you to extend the parcel out to include the road when work is taking place in the right of way?

That when you are on the ticket screen if you need to edit your map, you can use the back arrow in your browser to return to the map and make changes?

That there is a measurement tool located on the right of the map on both the map screen and the ticket screen that allows you to measure the distances on the map to ensure your entire work site is covered?

MARKING INSTRUCTIONS

That all of your excavation area must be contained within the marking instructions provided?

NO/INCORRECT ADDRESS

That you can edit or add an address in the address field if needed?

INCOMPLETE DRIVING DIRECTIONS

That if there is no address for a location then you must provide driving directions to the work site from a named intersection?

STREETS TRANSPOSED/INCORRECT CROSS STREET

That the street fields are editable so you can change the suggested information provided by the system?

INCORRECT TICKET TYPE

That you must select the correct ticket type from the landing page of ITIC to provide the correct type of ticket?

Reminders:

Excavator Ticket Management (ETM):

Clicking the Excavator Ticket Management tab will provide you with the list of GSOC tickets that you have processed and/or tickets you have access to submit. ETM is used to Advance Tickets, Update for Refresh and Extend Life, Update to Make Changes, Cancel and make Corrections (minor changes) to GSOC tickets.

If you have questions about ETM features please contact the GSOC ITIC Department at itic@gopherstateonecall.org or call 651-681-7326.

Search and Status Interactive Map:

The map at the bottom of Search and Status can be used to search for tickets. Click the ‘Create Polygon’ button on the left side of the map and create a search polygon on the map. This will allow you to view all tickets within the search polygon. The data fields in Search can be used to narrow down the results. If you have questions or need assistance using the Search tools contact the GSOC Help Desk at 651-681-7326.

ITIC Training:

GSOC encourages all excavators to become familiar with the online system. Attend an ITIC training session via one of our upcoming Webinar Wednesdays! If Wednesday does not work for you, contact our ITIC department and they will work with your schedule and can also offer onsite training.
